London Buses route 292 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Colindale and Borehamwood, it is operated by London Sovereign. ==History== Route 292 commenced operating on 3 January 1962 between Borehamwood and Willesden garage via Burnt Oak, Colindale AnalyserAnnesley Avenue (Mon-Fri peak/Sats), West Hendon and Cricklewood replacing trolleybus route 666 and part of bus route 52 with AEC Regent III RTs from Edgware garage. Just five months after its introduction, the route lost its Saturday service in favour of a route 292A.〔http://www.eplates.info/290s.html〕 On 27 January 1965, the section between Colindale and Willesden was withdrawn outright; the route also ran only to Burnt Oak on evenings. On 14 July 1973, route 292 was diverted at Burnt Oak to terminate at Edgware station, but continued to run to Colindale during weekday peaks; from there it now continued to Grahame Park (Quaker's Course). At the same time, the route was converted to one-person operation using DMS-class Daimler Fleetlines, and a full weekend service was introduced following the withdrawal of route 292A. In 1980, the DMSs were replaced by MCW Metrobuses. Following the establishment of competitive route tendering, operation of route 292 passed to London Country North East on 6 June 1987. However, a strike by LCNE employees ultimately led to Borehamwood Travel Services (BTS) taking over the route in early 1988, using secondhand Leyland Nationals and Atlanteans before acquiring a batch of Alexander RH bodied Scania N112DRBs in 1989. On 11 November 1989, Monday to Friday peak journeys were cut back to Colindale. From 3 July 1993, the route was diverted at Mill Hill to run direct to Edgware via Hale Lane, and all journeys now ran to Colindale (Asda). Upon being re-tendered, route 292 passed to Metroline on 4 December 1993, who reintroduced MCW Metrobuses. When next tendered, it passed to London Sovereign (as BTS had by now become) on 5 December 1998 who introduced Northern Counties Palatine bodied Volvo Olympians with appropriate route branding.〔http://www.countrybus.org/Volvo/NVSov.htm#content〕 Route 292 was included in the 3 November 2002 sale of London Sovereign was sold to Transdev.
